Dental Assistant
Provide Chairside Assistance to the Provider:
- Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures
- Take and develop dental radiographs (x-rays)
- Take patient's medical history, blood pressure and pulse
- Take impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth)
- Help patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment
- Prepare and maintain dental instruments, supplies and equipment
- Dental charting
- Proper entry of data in the software management system
- Provide patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement of a restoration (filling)
- Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health;
(e.g., toothbrushing, flossing and nutritional counseling)
- Perform office management tasks that often require the use of a personal computer
- Manage and control inventory
- Assist in patient check-out
- Consistently perform duties in a courteous and friendly manner
Perform Dental Infection Control Procedures:
- Manage the dental office infection control plan to meet OSHA, CDC and ADA standards
- Instrument cleaning, sterilization/disinfection, and re-circulation
- Dental treatment room disinfection
- Develop Infection Control Protocol when necessary
Perform Dental Laboratory Procedures
- Pour impressions & trim models
- Fabricate mouth guards, temporary crowns, custom impression trays
- Prepare casting models and dies
